SGE-S04: Facts and Figures

Tomorrow (15.30 CET) the ball is rolling again in the Commerzbank Arena. The match will be the 85th encounter of Schalke and SGE. More facts in our weekly number crunching.

History

  • It is the 85th time that Schalke and Eintracht meet in the Bundesliga.

  • Schalke 04 have lost just two of their 20 Bundesliga matches against Eintracht since October 2005 (W11, D7). S04 have only scored more goals top-flight against HSV (137) than SGE (126).

  • The sides last met in February 2016 (0-0) – since then, Schalke have gone 11 Bundesliga matches without a clean sheet. This is their longest wait for one for 30 years (16 games, March and September 1986).

  • However, S04 have gone five years without a win at the home of the Eagles (D3, L2). Their last victory in Frankfurt was in March 2010 (4-1).

Last Season

  • Frankfurt only survived relegation last season by virtue of winning the relegation play-off. The last time SGE avoided the drop in this manner in 1989, they finished the following campaign in third – the best placement for a side victorious in the previous season’s relegation play-off.

  • SGE allowed just 427 shots on their own goal – only 5 sides faced fewer last term.

  • While the Royal Blues’ last 10 BL goals came from open play,6 of SGE’s last 9 goals came from dead balls (4 corners and 2 free kicks).

Individuals

  • Schalke’s keeper Ralf Fährmann made 18 Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt between 2009 and 2011.

  • Markus Weinzierl takes charge of S04 for the first time this weekend. He never won a matchday one fixture with former side Augsburg (L4, scoring 0 goals in the process). On the other hand, he has lost just one of his eight Bundesliga matches against Eintracht (4-2 in Frankfurt on 17th November 2012, otherwise W3, D4)

  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has scored on the opening day of the last four campaigns. No player has ever managed five in a row.

  • Huntelaar and Alexander Meier were their team’s topscorer in the past season – each scored 12 goals.
