Football Makes History

The Eintracht Frankfurt Museum is a partner in a major European project.

The Eintracht Frankfurt Museum, in collaboration with the FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) network, the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the project agency Evenzo, will come up with material to be used for educational purposes and youth work.

The ‘Football Makes History’ initiative is organised by Euroclio, the European federation of history teachers’ associations, with support from Erasmus+, the European Union's education, youth and sport programme.

Football writes and is part of history

The beautiful game not only writes history out on the pitch, it is also a part of history itself. Football touches people, it fascinates them and brings them together in conversation. Due to its diversity and complexity, football reflects a wide range of socio-political themes. The Eintracht Frankfurt Museum aims to use the broad appeal of football’s popularity with the project ‘Football Makes History’ to reach young people with socially relevant topics.

By producing football-related materials on issues such as integrity, gender, migration and discrimination, the project aims to create low-threshold access and in doing so promote diversity, anti-discrimination and equality. The initiative, which involves educators and teachers from all over Europe, aims to produce teaching materials for schools as well as the foundations for youth work in football.

Initial interim results were developed at meetings in Rotterdam, Bucharest and The Hague. These are expected to be presented at a workshop at the Eintracht Frankfurt Museum in early 2021.
