Chandler and Waldschmidt on International Duties

Again, it is time to bring you up to date on how Luca Waldschmidt and Timmy Chandler performed with their national sides at the U19 European Championships and the 2015 Gold Cup, respectively.

The German U19 national team won their European Championships group match against the Netherlands by 1-0, immensely improving their chances to make it to semifinals. Gianluca Rizzo scored the only goal shortly before the match ended (89’). Eintracht youngster Luca Waldschmidt was replaced by Rizzo in the middle of the second half (64’). In the early stages of the game, the young Frankfurt forward had two good scoring opportunities, but was denied both times by Oranje keeper Drommel. Due to Russia’s victory against Spain, all teams in the German group have collected three points before the final matchday. Germany's last and decisive group match will take place against Russia on 13 July at 20.00 CET.

After only two matchdays, the US national team clinched a place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Haiti on Friday night. Clint Dempsey, who had already scored twice in the US boys’ opening match against Honduras, netted the ball in early into the second half (47’). Eintracht player Timothy Chandler did not gain on-pitch time. Due to their victory against Haiti, the USA became the first team to win 50 games in CONCACAF Gold Cup history. Congrats! The US team will return to action on 13 July, facing off against Panama in their last group match.
