Training

Happy to be back

The winter break is over, and almost all of the Eagles are fit and well. Jetro Willems trained with his teammates again for the first time.

There was good news to report as Eintracht Frankfurt returned to training just over a week after Christmas. Both rounds of obligatory COVID-19 tests returned negative results without exception, meaning the first session after the short winter break could go ahead as planned on Wednesday morning.

Apart from Ragnar Ache, who is still working his way back from injury and should return in January, all of the available 21 outfield players and three goalkeepers were at the training ground at Deutsche Bank Park. Bas Dost, who signed for FC Brugge on Christmas Eve, said goodbye to the players, coaches and backroom staff on Wednesday morning after one and a half years with the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Jetro Willems returned to full training for the first time since tearing his cruciate ligament while on loan at Newcastle United 11 months ago. The Dutchman has been working hard to regain his fitness, first individually and then with the group during the course of the first half of this season.

Ahead of this Saturday’s home match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (kick-off 15:30 CET), head coach Adi Hütter’s charges picked up from where they left off in recent weeks during training, taking part in complex passing and match situation drills.
