Werder Bremen scouting report: In-form opponents

SV Werder Bremen have picked up seven points from their last three matches, significantly improving their chances of maintaining their Bundesliga status.

Joshua Sargent kommt in dieser Saison auf 22 Partien und drei Treffer.

Form

Bremen have come back all guns blazing after the coronavirus-enforced break, picking up seven points from their last three matches and keeping clean sheets in all three. They recorded a 1-0 win at SC Freiburg, drew 0-0 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach and then last weekend beat FC Schalke 04 1-0 in Gelsenkirchen. Werder are still 17th in the table but have managed to claw themselves back to within two points of the relegation play-off place with their recent run of success. Suffice to say that Eintracht’s opponents tonight at the Weserstadion are enjoying a good run of form.

Tactics

In their three games since the restart, Werder have played a 4-3-3 / 4-3-1-2 system. The back four is made up of Marco Friedl, Niklas Moisander, Milos Veljkovic and Theodor Gebre Selassie. Sebastian Langkamp came in last Saturday due to Veljkovic having accumulated too many bookings, but the Serbian is likely to return to the starting line-up against Eintracht. The midfield has recently comprised Maximilian Eggestein, Davy Klaassen and Kevin Vogt, while up front, coach Florian Kohfeldt tends to favour Leonardo Bittencourt, Milot Rashica and Josh Sargent.

One to watch: Josh Sargent

The 20-year-old forward talent first moved to Bremen in January 2018, and his first season saw him register two goals in 10 matches. The US international has gone on to establish himself in green, appearing in 22 of a possible 28 games this season, scoring three goals and setting up another two. He has started all three matches since the break, and now seems to have found his place in the team.
