“A hard-fought victory”

Adi Hütter and his players share their thoughts on Tuesday’s battling win over Augsburg, which sends the Eagles into the final few games of the season full of confidence.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “The most important thing is that we showed the right reaction after the Gladbach game. The opening goal was the turning point. In the second half we played better football without creating clear-cut chances. The three points are very good for us, it was a hard-fought win. I’m happy for the entire club that we still have a chance to make history this season. The important thing is that Champions League qualification is in our own hands.”

We showed that we’re a team and that nothing can shock us. We earned ourselves important points.

Timothy Chandler: “It feels very, very good, but it hurts too (laughs). It was tough work. The team worked hard for 90 minutes. In the end we deserved to win. We had a lot of possession but we should have played better and, above all, with more pace. We showed that we’re a team and that nothing can shock us. We earned ourselves important points.”

Sebastian Rode: “It was a hard-fought win and not an easy task. We obviously knew from the start how tough an opponent we were facing. Augsburg defended very deep, which made it difficult for us to find the right spaces. On the counter we gave Augsburg too much space in certain situations, but we did a better job of that in the second half. We have to continue to do our homework – we face a very difficult task against Leverkusen on Saturday. It’s extremely important to keep Bayer at arm’s length.”
