“A very good first half of the season”

Head coach Niko Arnautis looks back on Eintracht Women’s most successful first half of a season in six years, with 22 points on the board.

Niko, could you have expected such a good first half of the season?

“We had big ambitions in the summer. We wanted a significant improvement on last year and to get closer to the top, both of which we’ve done. The fact that we’ve now achieved the best result of the last six years with 22 points shows we’re on a very good track, so we can definitely talk about a very good first half of the season.”

How proud are you as coach of your team?

“I’m very proud, not only because of the wins we’ve picked up but also the manner in which we’ve performed. We’ve become a true unit as a team on and off the pitch. The girls aren’t daunted by anything and have become a real family.”

How has the team changed compared to last season?

“Lots of our players have taken on big responsibility on the pitch at a young age and have increasingly grown into their roles. Even the experienced players have become more mature. We’re a settled team, which has been built up step by step in the last few years.”

The year ended with a 2-0 victory at SC Sand – a successful end to the year?

“Definitely. We’re going into the well-earned winter break with a very good feeling and will enjoy relaxing over the festive period. The win nicely rounded off the campaign so far – 2021 has overall been very pleasing for us. To be in the upper echelons of the table at the moment is a great ending for us.”
