“We’re going to fight to the end”

The Eintracht coach and players reflect on the draw against Mainz and its implications.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “The positive thing is that we showed character. Overall, we’re not happy with the result or the way we played. We took a long time to get into the game, and made a lot of wrong decisions with cross-field passes and losing possession easily. When you then go 1-0 down against strong opponents, it’s going to be even tougher. We didn’t do as well as I imagined and struggled to come up with answers against aggressive opposition. We need to keep focusing on ourselves and win the two remaining matches, and then we’ll know. We’re going to fight to the end.”

We’re a super team, we stick together, we’ll give everything and hopefully will have luck on our side in the remaining two games.

Makoto Hasebe: “We weren’t creative enough, didn’t play well enough and, on top of that, conceded a sloppy goal. We have to accept that. Neither team played at the intensity they normally do. Of course we’re disappointed today, but we have two games left and still have the chance of finishing fourth. We have to give everything until the end. We’re now the chasers and it’s a difficult situation, but anything can happen in football.”

Ajdin Hrustic: “On the one hand I’m happy about my goal, but obviously I would’ve liked the three points because we desperately want to get into the Champions League. As always, I gave my all and didn’t give up, as was the case with my goal. Not every match goes perfectly but we fought hard. We’re a super team, we stick together, we’ll give everything and hopefully will have luck on our side in the remaining two games.”
