Marco Russ on …
… Eintracht’s chances of lifting the DFB Cup: “Even if Bayern are regarded as the better team, we still have a realistic chance. We’re capable of pulling off a surprise and we're going into the game with a positive frame of mind. VfB Stuttgart showed [on Matchday 34] that Bayern are beatable. We’ve been working towards this game all year. We also have the opportunity to qualify for Europe - that’s motivation enough.”
… how the Eagles need to approach the game: “We want to have our share of possession, but first and foremost we need to defend well. We also need to make the most of the goalscoring opportunities that are certain to come our way. We need to be strong in the tackle and make life as difficult as possible for Bayern. In short, we need to perform like we did in 80 per cent of our games this season. The players don’t need any extra motivation - we’re anxious for the game to get under way. We’ll be on fire on Saturday.”
… his personal role on Saturday: “I didn’t play in 2017, but I still really enjoyed it as it was almost exactly one year on from my cancer diagnosis. This year, we’re happy that David Abraham is available for the final after his injury. He’s our leader and our most consistent defender. We’ll see how we approach the game tactically. All we can do now is impress the coaching team in training. Everyone wants to play - that goes without saying. There will be disappointment. I could be one of the unlucky ones, I’m aware of that. I’m definitely fitter than I was this time last year. I’m in good shape and feeling great.”
