The Eagles’ most recent meeting with Bremen on 1 September 2018 proved to be an incredibly tense affair. Everything seemed to go against Adi Hütter’s charges, who went 1-0 down before losing Jetro Willems to a red card. The ten men of Eintracht roused themselves in the second half, however, and managed to haul themselves back on level terms thanks to Sébastien Haller’s penalty. They had chances to add to Haller’s spot-kick, but Milot Rashica’s goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time earned Bremen a 2-1 victory.
Eagles eyeing 13th win in Bremen
Hütter’s side, who have lost their last two league meetings with Werder, are looking to make amends by registering what would be their 13th victory at the Weser-Stadion. SGE last claimed all three points in Bremen in November 2016, well over two years ago. Goals from Alex Meier and Aymen Barkok - who netted his first ever Bundesliga goal in the 90th minute - helped Eintracht come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 on Matchday 11 of the 2016/17 campaign. The Eagles will be hoping for a similar outcome on Saturday evening.
Fernandes suspended
Hütter will be relying on star forwards Haller, Ante Rebic and Luka Jovic - who all scored in the same game for the first time against Freiburg - to maintain their scintillating form at the Weser-Stadion. Eintracht’s potent attacking trio have scored more goals between them this season (29) than ten Bundesliga clubs have managed altogether in the league. Jovic is currently top of the scoring chart with 13 goals, while Haller and Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus have registered the most goals and assists combined.
The Eagles will have to make do without midfielder Gelson Fernandes, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Freiburg.
