“Can take a lot of positives”

Despite the 3-2 defeat to Dortmund, Oliver Glasner, Sebastian Rode and Rafael Santos Borré saw the positives while also reiterating what they need to work on.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “It’s the little things that decide big games. I saw a top match between two teams who attacked. We had chances to make it 3-0. The goal for 2-1 came about after an individual error, which happen in football. One criticism of our game is that we were too passive after going 2-0 up. We kept passing back to Kevin Trapp instead of playing forward. Nevertheless, it was a good performance and we can take a lot of positives. We’ll build on this match.”

In the second half, we missed the chance to go 3-0 up, while at the same time we played too many balls back to Kevin.

Sebastian Rode

Sebastian Rode: “I’m very disappointed with how the match panned out. In the second half, we missed the chance to go 3-0 up, while at the same time we played too many balls back to Kevin. We no longer got the ball into the deep areas to relieve the pressure. Dortmund smelled blood after pulling it back to 2-1 and were able to turn the game around. BVB are a great team, but we failed to attack more and that allows Dortmund opportunities.”

Rafael Santos Borré: “We were on top in the first half, which makes the events of the second half even more upsetting and frustrating. We were rewarded for our good work with the lead. When you then let the points slip, it’s very tough to take. It’s important that we function as a collective. We do, and you could see that for long spells again today. Not everything worked, and we’ll discuss that and rectify that with a view to the forthcoming matches.”
