“We want to improve on tactical aspects” – Adi Hütter interview

The gaffer talks about returning home and reveals what’s pleased him so far in pre-season, where there’s room for improvement and what the transfer priorities are.

Adi, the second training camp started yesterday in Windischgarsten. What’s it like for you to be back home in Austria?
“We only have to look around the place to see what a beautiful area Windischgarsten is. We have great conditions here.”

This camp takes place in between two competitive matches. How are you organising the training sessions?

“Firstly we want to pick up from where we left off in Tallinn and work on the finer points.  We want to improve on tactical aspects this week and at the same time, get ready for the second leg on Thursday.”

How’s the mood in the squad right now?
“Winning the first game was hugely important, especially as it was some time since our last competitive win. We won, scored two goals and had chances to score more. It was a first step, but we still need to improve over the course of qualifying.”

How are you viewing Sunday’s friendly against FC Wels?
“We planned the training camp before the qualifying rounds were confirmed, but we didn’t want to throw everything out of the window. The people in Wels are looking forward to this match, as is the club. Our squad is big enough to compete in this match and still be fresh.”

You now have plenty of options in central midfield. Is a new core emerging in that area?

“We certainly have more options there than we did last season. The competition for places, particularly in the middle, is greater than last season, which has also added to the quality. We know where we still need to do something, though. We’re still on the lookout for forwards but it’s important to stay calm in these situations. Correct decisions are always more important than quick ones. We need to be patient, and we will.”
