Preview: Travelling to Dortmund with confidence

Following back-to-back wins, Eintracht are aiming for another positive result at Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

Backdrop: chance to cut the gap

Eintracht Frankfurt are back to winning ways. The crucial 2-1 victory at Heidenheim was followed by a 3-1 win at home to Hoffenheim last weekend. With those results, the Eagles have consolidated sixth place in the table, giving themselves a seven-point cushion over seventh and eighth. Above them, the gap to Leipzig and Dortmund is six and seven points respectively.

“It’s done us a lot of good, because today was a day where we can be pleased not just with the result but also with the performance,” said a relieved Ansgar Knauff after the second successive win. “We did what we set out to do. Now we want to build on that.” The approach for the away match in Dortmund is therefore clear: Dino Toppmöller’s men can move to within four points of BVB with victory this Sunday (kick-off 17:30 CET).

Tough task

Knauff knows better than anyone what awaits Eintracht in Dortmund, having played for the Black and Yellows from 2018 to 2022. “It’s certainly going to be a difficult game, but we did very well in the reverse fixture [3-3],” said the winger. “If we can reproduce our performance from the Hoffenheim game, then we’ve got a good chance of beating Dortmund as well.”

“Going to Dortmund to win”

The hosts will be determined to prevent that, though, as BVB suffered their third home defeat of the season on their last outing at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, losing 3-2 to Hoffenheim. In addition, Edin Terzic’s side have already conceded 18 goals on home turf in 2023/24. As Robin Koch stated clearly, “We’re going to Dortmund to win!”
