Preview: A big opportunity

Three of the Eagles’ next four league matches are on home soil. First up on Sunday are Hoffenheim, with Eintracht looking to move seven points clear of their direct rivals.

Backdrop: Eagles eyeing another run

Eintracht ended their winless run with an important 2-1 victory at Heidenheim last weekend, boosting their European hopes in the process. Having occupied sixth place in the Bundesliga table since Matchday 16, Dino Toppmöller’s side will look to strengthen their position in the standings with victory over seventh-placed TSG Hoffenheim at Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday 10 March (kick-off 17:30 CET).

“We want to win at home so we can have the same feeling we had after the win in Heidenheim in front of our own fans,” said goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Ansgar Knauff, meanwhile, feels Saturday’s victory has given the players “momentum and confidence” for the tasks ahead. “Our aim is to build on that and keep picking up points,” he continued. “We want to use that momentum and go on another run.”

Hoffenheim strong on the road

In doing so, the Eagles will look to halt Hoffenheim’s mini-run of back-to-back victories in the league. TSG have beaten Borussia Dortmund 3-2 and Werder Bremen 2-1 in their last two games, moving them on to 33 points – four behind Eintracht.

The win at BVB was Hoffenheim’s sixth away victory in the league this season. Never before have they won as many games and claimed as many points on their travels (20) at this stage of a Bundesliga campaign. It will be up to Eintracht to prevent their direct rivals from improving that record at Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday.
