Having just landed in Frankfurt, successfully completed his medical and put pen to paper on his contract, new signing Jakic’s first words were directed towards the Eintracht fans: “You’ve gained an aggressive and appreciative player, who gives 100 per cent in every game. I hope to play as many games as possible this season and score lots of goals.”
The central midfielder is now looking to back up those words with actions. The 24-year-old is considered an all-round player, combining physical presence and running with technical finesse – qualities that are well-suited to Frankfurt’s play in the middle of the park. Since his debut season as a professional in 2016/17, Jakic has played 177 matches.
The club where he was educated, NK Imotski, are connected to Eintracht in a way. A certain Ante Rebic also came through the youth academy in the small Croatian town, and just like the AC Milan striker, Jakic made the next step up to RNK Split.
Jakic then had spells at NK Istra 1961 and NK Lokomotiva Zagreb before being snapped up by the country’s most successful club, GNK Dinamo Zagreb, ahead of the 2020/21 season. He immediately established himself in the first team at the capital club and celebrated the domestic league and cup double.
