Versatile youngster

Farès Chaibi made his first-team debut, won the French Cup and made his international bow for Algeria in 2022/23 before moving to Eintracht.

Farés Chaibi helped newly promoted Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse upset the odds in 2022/23 by winning the Coupe de France, courtesy of a 5-1 victory over Nantes in the final. The Algerian youngster played a key role in Les Violets’ success, registering five goal involvements (three goals and two assists) in as many appearances in his debut season as a professional.

In summer 2023, the right-footer left Toulouse for Eintracht on a contract until 2028.

In at the deep end

After joining Toulouse’s youth department from Lyon – his hometown club – in 2019, Chaibi was handed his top-flight debut in a 1-1 draw with OGC Nice in their opening game of last season. Head coach Philippe Montanier plucked the then 19-year-old from relative obscurity and, in the absence of other first-team regulars, raised eyebrows by throwing him straight into the starting line-up. Montanier’s faith in the French-Algerian only grew as the campaign went on, thanks in large part to the player’s growing confidence and composure in attack.

International debut for Algeria

Chaibi’s other strengths include excellent vision and positional play, which came to the fore as he began to thread passes into the final third and create space for his team-mates on a more regular basis. The midfielder made 41 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23, registering eight goals and seven assists. In March he received his first call-up by Algeria, where his family originate from, before making his Desert Foxes debut in a 2-1 win over Niger.

Farès Chaibi

“I think I can improve a great deal in Frankfurt and take my next step here,” Chaibi said at his official Eagles unveiling in August, adding: “I’m a player who covers a lot of ground and gives a lot on the pitch. I want to achieve as much as possible with the team and win every game.”

Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung said of Chaibi: “In Farès Chaibi, we’re gaining a player who’s young and capable of improving, and yet already boasts plenty of national and international experience. He can play in multiple positions in attack and offers attributes that will enhance our game. In the talks with Farès, we noticed how eager he is for the new challenge and for Eintracht Frankfurt. We’re looking forward to seeing him in our colours from now.”

Welcome to Eintracht, Farès!
