“We need a near perfect performance”

After Thursday’s draw with Fenerbahce, Oliver Glasner looks ahead to Sunday’s trip to league leaders Wolfsburg, issues a fitness update and reveals why he remains in positive spirits.

Head coach Oliver Glasner on…

…personnel: “We have two doubts: Chris Lenz still and Martin Hinteregger from yesterday. He's hurt his shoulder, he's in pain. We’ll see how they both get on in the final training session on Saturday. All the other players are fine as things stand.”

…the trip to Wolfsburg: “Wolfsburg’s team is virtually unchanged from last year. VfL are well-drilled and have become even stronger. We need to produce a near perfect performance. To do that, we need to keep our own mistakes to a minimum. We'll need to be effective in front of goal at Wolfsburg because they don't give you many chances. My coaching team and I know Wolfsburg very well. We're prepared.”

…the wait for the first win: “We made a poor start with two defeats. We’re now winless and unbeaten in our last four games. We've only conceded three goals in those four games and are becoming more stable in our defending. The glass can either be half full or half empty. For me, it’s always half full, so the situation isn’t giving me any headaches. I’d be having sleepless nights if I realised that the players weren’t pulling their weight, or if I didn’t have confidence in their abilities. But none of that is the case, so I’m fine.”

…recovering from midweek: “Having two more days of recovery [after Tuesday’s Champions League game] does give Wolfsburg a small advantage. If one of our players is tired or doesn’t feel able to give 100 per cent, we have many other players who are able to do so. We have a big squad so we’ll use up to 16 players on Sunday, all of whom are fully fit.”
