“Acquired a lot of confidence”

Oliver Glasner sets out the approach against Gladbach, reveals why two players will miss out and explains the importance of set pieces.

Oliver Glasner on…

personnel: “Personnel-wise it’s still looking good. We’ve got one absence to cope with in Jens Petter Hauge. He’s suffered a muscle injury and won’t play again this year. There’s a slight doubt over Kristijan Jakic but I expect him to be on the bus. Everything’s fine with Jesper Lindström. Stefan Ilsanker won’t be involved, he’s ill – negative for coronavirus – and will stay at home.”

…the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach: “We’re going into the game to win it. Nothing has changed in that regard since the beginning of the season. The approach is and has always been the same. It’s going to be a difficult but important assignment. We shouldn’t be deceived by Gladbach’s last three defeats. Gladbach are one of the few clubs who managed to keep their squad together and even strengthen it. They’re one of the technically strongest sides in the league, they have a lot of power and speed up front. We respect them a lot.”

The lads are working unbelievably hard to defend our goal and to attack the opposition penalty area.

Head coach Oliver Glasner

…confidence: “Our own performances are consistently at a good level. We’ve acquired a lot of confidence in recent weeks. That makes me confident that we can beat anyone in the Bundesliga with a performance like the one against Leverkusen.”

…set-piece situations: “Set pieces are a constant issue for us. It’s not necessarily to do with the opponents, but because almost every third goal we’re conceding is coming from a dead ball.”

…the first half of the season: “As a coaching and backroom team, we’ve all settled in and improved in a positive direction. We’re defending well. The lads are working unbelievably hard to defend our goal and to attack the opposition penalty area.”
