Unbeaten Home Series Continues

The Eagles won their home match against Dynamo Dresden 3-0 on Friday evening. The score line was settled in the first half already with Meier’s early opener (3’), an own goal by Schuppan (14’) and Idrissou adding the third (34’). An impressive performance moved Eintracht past Fürth in the standings to go top of the league, at least until the remaining matches are played.

Manager Armin Veh put up the exact same starting line-up as in last week’s win away to Rostock. Mo Idrissou featured up front alongside Jimmy Hoffer, Karim Matmour stayed on the bench and Constant Djakpa started in left defense again.

Ambitious Eagles, Early Lead

Right from the start Eintracht showed their ambitions and only three minutes into the match a decent Djakpa cross found Eagles top scorer Alex Meier who headed in from the edge of the box – his 13th goal of the season already (3’).

The 37,100 crowd then saw scoring opportunities for Frankfurt nearly by the minute, especially down the left side via Djakpa, Idrissou and Köhler. While Anderson (6’), Jung (10’) and both Meier and Hoffer (13’) were not able to score from their good chances it was a Schuppan own goal from a questioning Idrissou cross that extended Eintracht’s lead (14’).

Dresden Struggles, Idrissou Scores

It took nearly half an hour until Dynamo had a promising attack but Poté missed the target from deep angle (29’). On the other side Hoffer (25’) and Köhler with with a curled long range free-kick (33’) came close. But it was Mo Idrissou who found the net after all converting a cross by Sebastian Rode with another header – 3-0 (34’)!

The Eagles kept pushing, Dresden had a couple of chances on the break but Dedic and again Poté were not able to score, Meier had another go for the Eagles but his shot from close range after a smooth build-up went wide. The three goal lead at half time was well deserved.

Early Chances, Convincing Eintracht

Both teams had early chances after the break to continue the scoring but Trojan’s shot went over the bar (47’) and Idrissou’s attempt from a Hoffer cross came close but went off target (49’). Shortly after Dresdens’s Savic had a double chance but was denied by Eintracht keeper Nikolov (51’).

The Eagles kept up their game with fluent passing and confident attacking, they created further chances but now lacked the instinct to finish them. Meier (57’, 64’) and Jung (63’) had opportunities and Dresden’s goalie Kirsten did well to save a shot from the edge of the box, again by Meier (71’).

Dynamo Lacking Power

Dresden did not manage to create further scoring opportunities with Eintracht being fully in control of the match, defensively as well as in midfield and up front. It was a convincing performance throughout the 90 minutes which sees Eintracht go top of the league for the moment, at least until Greuther Fürth have played their match away to 1860 München.

Eintracht are now on 55 points and totaled 61 goals in 26 matches so far – 2.4 goals per match on average. Manager Armin Veh was positive about his team’s performance in the post match interview stating that there were hardly any negatives to note, especially in the first half. Coming up for the Eagles is the match away to Union Berlin on Monday the 26th at 20.15h CET.
