Tribute to Wlodzimierz Smolarek

It is with great sadness that Eintracht Frankfurt met the news of one of their former player’s death - Wlodzimierz Smolarek.

The former Polish international (60 caps) joined the Eagles in 1986 and scored 13 league goals in 63 matches up until 1988. ‘Smoli’ scored twice in his debut match against Fortuna Düsseldorf and soon became a favourite of the crowds for his hard-working attitude on and off the pitch. He was also part of the SGE team that won the German “DFB-Pokal” Cup in 1988 against VfL Bochum.

Wlodzimierz Smolarek died far too young, at the age of only 54. Our thoughts and our deepest sympathies are with his family and friends.
