Eagles enter competition mode in training

The first session of the week took place without Skhiri and Collins, but there was joy for Bahoya and Uzun as they ended a mini-tournament as top scorers.

After giving them two days off, head coach Dino Toppmöller put his players through their paces in a double session on Wednesday. Athletics, passing and duel drills were on the agenda – and there was no holding back from the Eintracht squad in any of the exercises.

Junior Dina Ebimbe was involved in parts of the session, while Ellyes Skhiri and Nnamdi Collins trained away from the rest of the group and injured duo Robin Koch (shoulder) and Igor Matanovic (foot) continued their recovery programmes. Ebu Bekir Is, who has established himself as a permanent member of Toppmöller’s ensemble in recent months and became the club’s youngest ever debutant against Roma, is representing Germany Under-17s at the Algarve Cup in Portugal until 20 February.

There was certainly a healthy dose of competition on the training pitch in Frankfurt, as the Eagles squad divided themselves into six teams and faced one another in a mini-tournament. Despite the competitive edge to the games, they were a great deal of fun too – particularly for the winning team. Jens Grahl was named best goalkeeper, while Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Can Uzun shared the top goalscorer award.
