Heavily wrapped up against the cold, the Eintracht players headed out onto the Commerzbank-Arena training ground just before 11:00 CET on Tuesday. Hats, gloves and long johns were the order of the day as temperatures dropped to -4C for the Eagles’ first training session ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bremen.
“When you’ve played in Germany for a while you get used to these conditions in winter,” grinned Japanese defender Makoto Hasebe afterwards. “Even if the pitch gets a little slippery, it’s not a problem. You take it as it comes.”
Low temperatures, high intensity
Indeed, Adi Hütter’s squad appeared as determined as ever during Tuesday’s two-hour session. Three goalkeepers and 21 outfield players were involved, with Lucas Torró working on his own and Mijat Gacinovic returning to full training following injury. After a thorough warm-up routine, Hütter’s charges turned their attentions to drills with the ball and tactical exercises.
There was no holding back the Eagles players, despite the freezing temperatures. “We’ve got a difficult game in Bremen this weekend,” said Hasebe. “But you can tell we’re in good form. I’m confident we can get three points against Werder too.”
