“The atmosphere will be unbelievable” - Hütter and Hasebe look ahead to Shakhtar

At a busy press conference ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt’s UEFA Europa League Round of 32 second leg with Shakhtar Donetsk, head coach Adi Hütter and defender Makoto Hasebe shared their hopes for Thursday’s clash with the Ukrainian champions.

Adi Hütter on…

…personnel: “We need to wait until after training today before making a final verdict. It’s unlikely Gelson Fernandes will play. We’ll have to wait and see with Sebastian Rode and David Abraham. I have until tomorrow evening to decide how we’ll line up in midfield and will discuss it with the relevant players. We have plenty of options. Makoto Hasebe is a versatile player. It’s not just about the defensive midfield position, though, but also about playing as a unit, not giving your opponents space and defending our good result from the first leg. If, on top of that, we’re able to play attractive football and score goals, so much the better.”

…his expectations: “I had goosebumps in our first home game against Lazio. This atmosphere has helped us enormously in all our home games and gives us extra motivation. I’ve been just as impressed with the effort the fans have gone to in order to support us away from home. Eintracht have shown that their fans are second to none in Europe. By playing the right way tomorrow, we want to give them something to shout about again.”

Makoto Hasebe on…

…the upcoming opponents: “Shakhtar Donetsk have got great quality, particularly in attacking areas. Taison is a very good player - quick, well-versed technically and a complete footballer. We can’t afford to only concentrate on him, though - all four of their attackers are strong. We need to make sure we get close to our opponents. 2-2 is a dangerous scoreline. I hope we manage to score one or two goals at the other end.”

…the atmosphere: “The atmosphere will be unbelievable once again. We need to pay our supporters back with a good performance and show that we want to reach the next round. I was able to have a quick glance at tomorrow’s tifo just now - it gave me an adrenaline rush!”
