Eintracht will host French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on 1 August, setting up a reunion with former head coach Niko Kovac.

The Eagles begin pre-season training on Monday 27 July, before travelling to Basel on Thursday 6 August for the return leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie. Eintracht’s first and only friendly ahead of that fixture will take place on Saturday 1 August, when they take on eight-time French champions Monaco at the Deutsche Bank Park (kick-off 18:00 CEST).

Adi Hütter is looking forward to a reunion with his predecessor Kovac, who lifted the 2018 DFB Cup with Eintracht and is now in the Monaco hot seat. “It’ll be a good test for us ahead of the Basel game against a top team like Monaco,” the SGE head coach said. “I speak for everyone at Frankfurt when I say it’ll be good to see Niko Kovac again.”

Kovac himself echoed that sentiment, saying: “We’re really looking forward to this game. It’s always nice to come to Frankfurt and to see friends. It’ll also be an interesting test for us in footballing terms as we make our way back home after our training camp.”
