Bundesliga season to start on 18 September

The Deutsche Fußball Liga has published the overall matchday calendar for the 2020/2021 season.

Only 13 matchdays will be played before a shortened winter break.

The DFL has published the overall matchday calendar for next season, with the Bundesliga getting under way on 18 September and, in keeping with tradition, the first round of the DFB Cup being held the week before. The last day of league action is slated for 22 May 2021, with the final of the cup to be held on Thursday 13 May in between Matchdays 32 and 33.

The delayed start to the season means that the compulsory winter break is being all but cancelled this time around. The first midweek Bundesliga matchday is pencilled in for 15/16 December, followed five days later by Matchday 13 (18–21 December) which will bring the first half of the league campaign to an end. The second round of the DFB Cup will be played on 22 and 23 December, before a nine-day break over the festive period. The Bundesliga gets back to business straight after the New Year with Matchday 14 on 2 January.

The DFB Cup final will be played on Thursday, 13 May 2021, before the end of the Bundesliga.
