Teams consolidating their positions

On the penultimate weekend of the season Eintracht Frankfurt, 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FC Mainz could be forgiven for taking their foot of the gas as they aim to consolidate their mid-table positions. For Stuttgart, however, that is not the case as they try to cap off an incredible season by securing European qualification for the second season running on Matchday 33.

Eintracht Frankfurt -1899 Hoffenheim

Having equalled their largest margin of victory in the Bundesliga, 5-1 against Hamburg, 1899 Hoffenheim face a Frankfurt team they have never lost against in the Bundesliga. Now that their place in the Bundesliga is secure Hoffenheim striker Vedad Ibisevic wants to end the season on a high note: "We want to have fun with the last 2 games of the season." Meanwhile coach Ralf Rangnick knows it is not that simple: "We have to disrupt the play of this free-flowing team and take the chances we are afforded."

For Frankfurt who currently occupy 9th spot in the league, the season has been by no means spectacular and they now face a team two places below them that they have never won against in the Bundesliga. "Hoffenheim has not demonstrated the consistency this season that we have come to expect of them. In my opinion they are a better team than their league position might suggest," stated Skibbe in the build-up to the match.
