History
- SGE have lost just one of their last 11 matches vs. SVW (1-0 on matchday 31 in 2014/15, otherwise W6, D4).
- The Eagles won their final four games in 1998/99 to stay up. They’re the only side to win on matchdays 31, 32 and 33 this term. Could history repeat itself?
- Bremen have ended six of the last seven seasons with a defeat (also 1-1 vs. HSV in 2009/10). They’ve lost their last five games to take place on matchday 34.
Season
- The Eagles need a draw to guarantee survival, whereas Bremen have to win. If Stuttgart drop points in Wolfsburg, neither side can automatically be relegated to the second division.
- VfB have a -23 goal difference, which is weaker than Bremen’s (-16). A draw would therefore more than likely see SVW contest the play-off.
- SVW have taken seven points from their last four games, are unbeaten in two and kept their first clean sheet of the season last weekend in Cologne.
- Frankfurt won their most recent away match (2-1 in Darmstadt).
- Bremen have won consecutive home games for the first time this season. However, they’ve taken just 17 points from their 16 matches at the Weserstadion in 2015/16, meaning that a new negative club record could be set this weekend (currently 1998/99’s 18).
- Frankfurt have been strong from set pieces in recent games: 6 of their last 9 goals have come from dead balls (4 corners and 2 free kicks).
- Also, SGE have conceded only twice across the last 3 matchdays - only Köln and Augsburg are better off in this regard (1 each).
Individuals
- Bremen will be without Fin Bartels for the game. He’s scored three goals in his last four appearances – more than any other Werder player in that period. Eintracht’s Szabolcs Huszti is out too. Both players claimed their fifth booking of the season on matchday 33, incurring a one-game suspension in the process.
- Stefan Aigner has scored three goals this term, all of which turned out to be winners (2-1 vs. Bremen in December, 2-1 in Darmstadt and 1-0 vs. BVB).
