Summary of the Events in May

In the May-Newsletter we already told you which players will leave (Proell, Zimmermann, Spycher and Liberopoulos). Clark will stay with us for another 3 years.

We are still waiting for news about Altintop, Tsoumou and Heller whose contracts expire at the end of the month. And it’s not sure whether Bellaid and Steinhoefer will return. They were on loan to other clubs and had success with them. Steinhoefer’s Kaiserslautern (now 1. Bundesliga) is a league-climber and may want to keep its players. Bellaid (picture below) played well in France and became even part of the Algerian national team! Just today it was announced that Kruek will leave us for a small fee in order to stay in Osnabrueck (where he was on loan either).

Our first new player is Theofanis Gekas, a Greek national player who recently played for Berlin where he scored 6 goals in 17 matches (altogether 39 goals in 99 games in the Bundesliga). As Berlin was relegated, he had to rejoin Leverkusen but prefers to come to Frankfurt because his chances to play are higher here. The transfer fee was 1 million Euros. Welcome “Fanis”!

This could be our team for the next season if there are no more changes:

Nikolov (Faehrmann) - Jung (Franz), Chris (Vasoski), Russ (Bellaid) - NEW PLAYER (Koehler) - Ochs (Steinhoefer), Meier (Teber), Schwegler (Clark),  Korkmaz (Koehler) - Gekas (Fenin), Amanatidis (Caio).

(Plus the talents Titsch-Rivero, Tosun and Alvarez – and the injured Bajramovic.)

As coach Michael Skibbe sees Koehler more as a midfield-player than as a defender, Eintracht is still looking for a left defender. There are rumours that Bellaid might learn to play this position instead of being in the center. But other rumours say that Eintracht is interested in some left defenders – like the 22 year-old Tzavellas (Panionios Athens) who was nearly part of the Greek world-cup-team but has to stay at home.

There is not much to tell you about the games in May as we lost against Hoffenheim and in Wolfsburg (goals by Schwegler and Altintop) and our final position in the league-table was position 10.

In my opinion, it’s much more interesting to look forward instead: Spycher and Amanatidis can’t play the world-cup due to their injuries. But still there are 4 Eintracht-players who will take part. So maybe you will have a special interest in watching Switzerland (with Schwegler, picture above), the US-team (with Clark), Greece (with Gekas) or Algeria (with Bellaid).
