Eagles out to carry momentum

Eintracht’s trip to Union Berlin on Sunday could be decisive for both teams as they look to secure European qualification.

Eintracht Frankfurt enjoyed another magical night of European football on Thursday with the sensational 3-2 away win at Barcelona sealing their passage to the last four of the UEFA Europa League. Before travelling to London to meet West Ham in the first leg of the semi-finals in two weeks, Oliver Glasner’s side have plenty of work ahead of them in the Bundesliga.

On Sunday the Eagles are away at fellow top-six challengers Union Berlin, who currently sit seventh in the standings on 44 points, five ahead of Eintracht. The objective is clear, then: if Glasner’s charges are to qualify for continental competition next term via their league position, then only a win will do. Should Union emerge victorious, they would have an eight-point advantage over Eintracht with just four games left to play – a scenario everyone in the Eagles camp is determined to avoid.

Impressive away form

Eintracht have already demonstrated in 2021/22 that they are more than capable of coping with midweek fixtures, with just two of the nine games immediately following a European outing ending in defeat. Indeed, following an Eintracht away game in Europe, four of the team’s next domestic assignments produced victories, with one defeat.

In general, SGE’s away form has been strong this term, with 22 of the team’s 39 points to date won on the road. That represents the fifth-best haul of all Bundesliga clubs so far this campaign, a strength the Eagles need to show once again on Sunday.
