“Kept trying until the end”

Sebastian Rode, Bas Dost and Adi Hütter expressed mixed feelings following the opening-day draw against Bielefeld.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “Bielefeld deserve the point. They defended well and were dangerous on the counter. Overall we conceded possession easily far too many times, which meant we didn’t manage to stretch the opposition. The team kept trying to win the game until the end. Of course there were a few things that didn’t click, which we’ll work on. Having 6,500 spectators today represents a step in the right direction. They gave us the sense of what it means to play here, there was a great atmosphere. It’s a shame we couldn’t reward the fans with a win.”

We now need to take the positives out of this game. The crowd of 6,500 made a lot of noise today. It was a very different kind of atmosphere and feeling, it was nice.

Sebastian Rode: “We went behind from a counter – we can’t allow that to happen. Bielefeld were a constant threat on the break, so we can be glad that we got it back to 1-1. A bit of luck would’ve helped us today, especially with Martin Hinteregger’s header onto the underside of the bar. We now need to take the positives out of this game. The crowd of 6,500 made a lot of noise today. It was a very different kind of atmosphere and feeling, it was nice.”

Bas Dost: “We played well in the first half but we needed to score. If you don’t do that, then it’s always going to be tight. The other team can always get a chance and they took advantage of that, but we stayed positive and equalised. We could’ve got more, so we’re disappointed. We had three or four gilt-edged chances, which we should’ve made more of.”
