Sow and Switzerland celebrate

Swiss international Djibril Sow has become the latest Eagles player to clinch automatic qualification for the World Cup.

The final international break of 2021 has proved a highly successful one for Eintracht Frankfurt’s internationals. Kevin Trapp’s Germany and Jesper Lindström’s Denmark sealed their place at the 2022 World Cup some time ago, but a number of Eagles players have managed to follow suit with their respective countries in recent days. After Filip Kostic’s Serbia and Kristijan Jakic’s Croatia secured automatic qualification over the weekend, Djibril Sow became the latest Eintracht man to book his ticket to Qatar on Monday evening.

Historic night for Switzerland

Switzerland beat European champions Italy to top spot in their group with a 4-0 victory over Bulgaria in their final qualifier. Eintracht midfielder Sow was brought on in second-half stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Austria eased to a 4-1 win over Moldova. Martin Hinteregger missed the game through suspension, while Stefan Ilsanker entered the fray in the 72nd minute.

Goalkeeper Diant Ramaj played the full 90 minutes for Germany’s U20s, who drew 1-1 with their Portuguese counterparts.
