"Shakhtar are a top team"

Ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt's UEFA Europa League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday, head coach Adi Hütter and midfielder Sebastian Rode addressed the media at the pre-match press conference, discussing the Eagles' opponents, their style of play, and past experiences against the Ukrainian side.

Adi Hütter on …

… Shakhtar Donetsk: "They're a top team. I'd say they're better than Lazio and Marseille, even just for the fact that they've played regularly in the Champions League over the last few years. They're a very good side and we'll need to be disciplined and well prepared tactically. When we lose possession we need to make sure we get back behind the ball quickly. We've watched their matches against Hoffenheim from last year and also their friendly games during their winter break. Their key players, like Taison, Stepanenko, Pyatov, Ismaily and Maycon, are all still there. We know what they're about and will have to be focused for 90 minutes."

… Shakhtar's playing style: "They're a bit like Borussia Dortmund and a bit like Bayern Munich. They'd be up near the top if they played in the Bundesliga."

… Eintracht's chances of progressing to the next round: "Fifty-fifty. It’ll come down to minor details. We know we'll be able to count on our wonderful fans tomorrow and at home next week. They really help us a lot."

Sebastian Rode on …

… looking forward to the game: "It's nice to be back in the Europa League with Eintracht. I'm really looking forward to the match. We'll need to play well tomorrow in order to get a good result. Obviously a win would set us up perfectly for the return leg, but an away goal would also be very important."

… his experience against Shakhtar with Bayern Munich: "We drew 0-0 here. It was even colder back then. The return leg was easier than expected because they had a man sent off after five minutes."

… Shakhtar Donetsk: "They're a good team. It's important for us to play well and to gain some self-confidence."
