“Believe we were worthy winners”

Oliver Glasner, Makoto Hasebe, Daichi Kamada and Jesper Lindström believe that the win in Marseille was a well-deserved one, and that it all came down to team spirit.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “I take my hat off to the team for this performance. The match was just as intensive and hard-fought as we expected it to be. The team were very disciplined  and barely let up at any point. Over the 90 minutes, I believe that we were worthy winners.”

Makoto Hasebe: “I’m really proud of the fact that I can still play in the Champions League at 38 years old. Individual performances don’t matter though – what’s really, really important are the three points. I played my part and put in a decent performance, so I couldn’t be happier.”

We went out there and played as a team, with the style of football that we’ve come to be known for.

Daichi Kamada

Daichi Kamada: “It’s a really important win for us after what was a very tough match. We went out there and played as a team, with the style of football that we’ve come to be known for. We’re in a challenging group and we’re looking to win our next game, at home to Tottenham.”

Jesper Lindström: “It’s not all about me being Frankfurt’s first goal-scorer in Champions League history, it’s about the team getting their first win in this competition in the history of the club. It wasn’t easy coming here to play. Football is about battling it out and scoring goals. We’ve got another game coming up at the weekend, and we need to do it all over again.”
