With eight days to go until Eintracht Frankfurt kick off the new campaign with the first round of the DFB Cup, the Eagles’ new club captain has been confirmed. Oliver Glasner and his coaching staff have opted for Sebastian Rode as David Abraham’s successor, with Makoto Hasebe and Martin Hinteregger chosen as the 30-year-old’s understudies.
As a true Hessian with great experience and personality, Sebastian Rode is the ideal captain for our team and a strong representative of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Explaining his decision, Glasner said: “As a true Hessian with great experience and personality, Sebastian Rode is the ideal captain for our team and a strong representative of Eintracht Frankfurt. The same applies to his deputies, Makoto Hasebe and Martin Hinteregger. With Kevin Trapp in goal, we have a fantastic core.”
Rode is regarded as one of the leading role models at the football club and the region. “To wear the captain’s armband at Eintracht Frankfurt fills me with pride and great joy,” he said. “I’d like to thank head coach Oliver Glasner for his trust in me. Along with my deputies Makoto Hasebe and Martin Hinteregger – as well as Kevin Trapp, who is a leading figure and solid presence in goal – I’ll carry out my duties as captain with passion every day.”
