Big opportunity against tough opponents

Eintracht will hope to strengthen their position in UEFA Europa League Group D against in-form Olympiacos.

Eintracht Frankfurt host Olympiacos FC on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Europa League group stage on Thursday (kick-off 21:00 CEST).

The visitors have been in impressive form so far this season, their last defeat coming in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round back in August. The Greek record champions have registered eight wins and three draws in that time, and currently sit top of their domestic league with 14 points. They also lead the way in Europa League Group D with two wins from their two matches so far, including a 3-0 win at Fenerbahce last time out.

Olympiacos’ record against German opposition leaves a lot to be desired, however. They have lost their last seven games against Bundesliga opponents, including four against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

Eintracht and Olympiacos have never faced each other in a competitive fixture. Thursday’s first ever meeting between the clubs could be a crucial one, as the visitors will all but confirm their place in the knockout stages with a win.

The Eagles can spoil the party – and even leapfrog the Greek outfit in the group – with a victory of their own. The superb last-minute win in Antwerp three weeks ago left Oliver Glasner’s side in second place with four points to their name.
