Schahriar, the summer break was relatively long. How did you react to it?
“Given the high workload that the players have during the season, it’s important that they get a break. That’s why our players were first given two weeks off before they started the training sessions for the summer break. Everyone received a comprehensive training plan that’s adapted to their individual needs. These plans include a running programme, preventative exercises and strengthening exercises. Through these individual training plans and the discipline of the players, we ensured that everyone returned in good condition.”
What did the performance tests show up?
“The players’ performance tests were decent. Our performance diagnostics showed us exactly where the strengths and deficits of individual players lie. There’s always potential for improvement. Our aim is to develop the players in every area, to improve their performance and maintain their health.”
Based on the data that’s available to us in the physical department, we’re on the right track.

The training camp involved a lot of travelling and multiple time zones. What preventative measures did you use?
“For the first few days, we made sure that our players settled into the different rhythm. Sleep patterns play an essential role in that, as a preventative measure. These measures help the players to recover more quickly and prepare themselves in the best way for the training sessions.”
You’ve done a lot of individual work with Aurèle Amenda. What stage is he at?
“We carried out Aurèle’s integration into team training in close consultation with the medical department. Aurèle came through the building-up phase of rehab well and has already trained partially with the team. He was even able to get his first minutes in the friendly against Louisville.”
What physical insights have the first few weeks of pre-season provided?
“We’ve had a lot of intense sessions and have got through the first four weeks well. In every session, the team have shown great willingness to work hard in order to improve. Based on the data that’s available to us in the physical department, we’re on the right track.”
