Santos nominated for “Rookie of the Month”

Fans can vote for the Eintracht goalkeeper as the best Bundesliga newcomer in September.

It’s been a whirlwind season so far for Kaua Santos at Eintracht Frankfurt. After being an unused substitute for the first two matchdays - official confirmation that he is now the team’s number two goalkeeper - he came off the bench in Wolfsburg on Matchday 3 to replace injured first-choice custodian Kevin Trapp and immediately impressed.

Santos took to the pitch, oozed confidence and helped the Eagles to a 2-1 win. “Kaua did exactly what we’ve seen him do in training over the past few months,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller afterwards. “He’s a very brave goalkeeper. As a team we have full faith in him.”

The 21-year-old made seven saves against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 4, more than any other goalkeeper across that weekend, and kept a clean sheet en route to a 2-0 victory.

After another eye-catching performance in the top-of-the-table meeting with Bayern Munich, Santos has now been nominated for September’s “Rookie of the Month” award. Eintracht fans can cast their votes for him until 23:59 CEST on Thursday 10 October.

The prize is a way for the Bundesliga to recognise the standout young players each month. Alongside Santos, Bayern’s Michael Olise and VfB Stuttgart’s Fabian Rieder have also been nominated for September.

Votes are weighted in the following manner:

  • Fan votes: 40 percent
  • Club votes: 30 percent
  • Pundit votes: 30 percent
