“We fancy our chances”

Sebastian Rode looks ahead to Eintracht’s first match of 2022 against Dortmund, addresses his and the Eagles’ development since the start of the season and provides an update on his fitness.

Sebastian Rode on…

…his personal wellbeing: “I’ve got through the first sessions unscathed. We’ve already had a very intense set of sessions. I’ve come through it well so far. I hope it stays that way and that I continue to progress step by step.”

…Eintracht’s form before the winter break: “We struggled at first then had a run that catapulted us forwards. We’ve seen that it can work. There’s a lot of work behind it, as well as a bit of luck. We’ve got better and better as a team. It’s important to carry that over into the new year and build on it.”

Before the season started we said we wanted to be knocking on the door of the Europa League places again. We’re up there at the moment and want it to stay that way until the end.

Sebastian Rode

…the state of the team: “The whole team are very focused, like they have been in training. We know we haven’t achieved anything yet. I’m optimistic about the structure of the team and the coach, who is very proactive and doesn’t put up with stagnation.”

…the game against Dortmund: “It’s a great pity that there are no fans. Even having 15,000 helped us. I expect a fierce contest nevertheless. BVB have unbelievable quality, but we fancy our chances.”

…the goal for the second half of the campaign: “Before the season started we said we wanted to be knocking on the door of the Europa League places again. We’re up there at the moment and want it to stay that way until the end.”
