Preview: "Billy Goats" host Eintracht for midweek fixture

The midweek fixtures see Eintracht travel to Cologne for the matchday five encounter against 1. FC Köln (Wednesday 18.30 CET).

1. FC Köln - Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Kick-off: Wednesday (20 September 2017), 18.30 CET
  • Venue: Rheinenergiestadion, Cologne
  • Referee: Martin Petersen (50 Bundesliga 2 games)

Build-Up

The Eagles suffered a 2-1 home defeat against FC Augsburg last weekend despite pushing for the equalizer; Jovic scored late in the day but after all SGE had to let go of the points. Their last away win in Cologne dates 23 years back so it is time to turn the tides here!

It's the 85th Bundesliga encounter between the two teams who both were part auf the inauguration season of the league in 1963. SGE won 28 of those 84 games with 25 draws and 31 defeats. Cologne's midfielder Matthias Lehmann and goalkeeper Thomas Kessler helped Eintracht to achieve promotion to Bundesliga in 2011/12.

1. FC are in a crisis though, rock-bottom of the table after four defeats in a row including most recently the 5-0 setback away against Borussia Dortmund - the largest defeat under the reign of coach Peter Stöger. The "Billy Goats" conceded more goals than any other team so far (12).

Attendance

Around 2,300 away supporters will cheer on the Eagles at Rheinenergiestadion in Cologne.
