“We need to show we're ready”

Oliver Glasner discusses the start of the new season in Magdeburg, the opposition's strengths and gives a personnel update.

Oliver Glasner on…

…the start of the season: We're looking forward to finally getting started after five weeks of pre-season. We've used the time well and go into the new season fired up. We obviously want to win at Magdeburg in front of a full house."

… 1. FC Magdeburg: “They're a team with a clear idea of how they want to play football. They've got quick, nimble players up front who like going one-on-one and who are good at finding spaces. They're a very attacking side but they also allow opposing teams lots of shots at goal. You can clearly recognise the work their coach is doing.”

We feel ready but now we need to show that.

Head coach Oliver Glasner

… personnel: “I'm assuming Kevin Trapp will be back in goal after his cold. Evan Ndicka trained without any problems for the first time this week. If that remains the case over the next few days then he'll travel to Magdeburg with us and will probably be in the starting line-up. Marcel Wenig will play for the U21s on Saturday in order to gain some match practice. "I have huge respect for how Goncalo Paciencia conducts himself despite not playing recently and others being in front of him. He's still working hard and spreading good vibes."”

...his plans up front: “Rafa Borré had a great first season. I don't judge him only on the goals he scores – he also does an unbelievable amount of work for the team. In signing Lucas Alario we now have the chance to give him a break.”

…team spirit: “We feel ready but now we need to show that. It's a bit easier this year because the guys are already familiar with lots of things and we haven't lost any first-team regulars. We've integrated the newcomers well, everyone's doing their bit.”
