“I feel fit”

Makoto Hasebe talks about his contract extension, his fitness level and objectives with Eintracht.

Makoto Hasebe on…

…on the process that led to his contract extension: “Last summer I was 99 per cent sure that I was going to retire after this season. A few weeks ago, I sat down with Fredi Bobic and explained to him that I feel very good. He then asked me whether I could imagine playing on for longer, and I was keen straight away. Coach Adi Hütter also wanted to continue working with me. I would’ve preferred to have signed for three years, but one will do for now (laughs).”

…his fitness level: “I still feel fit and can run a lot. I’ve not changed my daily routine over the years: regular training, Japanese food, a relaxing bath in the evening – that keeps me fit and healthy.”

I can’t say at the moment whether I’ll continue beyond next season. Things can happen very quickly in football.

Makoto Hasebe

…the current Bundesliga table: “It’s my big dream to be able to play in the Champions League once more next year. We’ve got 10 matches left against strong opponents, though, so we should stay humble and concentrate on the upcoming matches first of all.”

…his future at Eintracht: “I can’t say at the moment whether I’ll continue beyond next season. Things can happen very quickly in football. That said, I have the feeling that the upcoming season will be my last as a player.”
