“One point gained rather than two dropped” - Marius Wolf interview

Marius Wolf reflects on a point gained against Hoffenheim and discusses tiki-taka, his new wingman and the next game at Bayer Leverkusen.

Marius, what’s the mood in the camp following the 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim?

Marius Wolf: “It's good. A draw was the right result. Both sides had spells of pressure, it was back and forth. That’s also why both were a bit flat at the end, but overall I think we can be happy with the point.”

Niko Kovac described Jovic’s goal as tiki-taka. As the player who set it up, what’s your take?

“We know we can play good football. In comparison to the first half of the season, we’ve already improved a lot in our attacking play and every now and then we get some really nice moves going. We’re playing better all the time.”

The partnership between Danny da Costa and you worked well on Sunday. Do you suit each other?

It works really well with Danny. He gives good instructions from the back, which helps me a lot because there are some things you just don’t see. But he always gets involved in attack too, he makes a lot of runs and that in turn helps him. Our partnership’s getting better and better.

Now you have Tuesday off. What will you be doing?

I’ll have some treatment in the morning and then relax. I might take the dog for a walk. It’s important to switch off sometimes and then hit the gas again.

Could the laid-back character of the team perhaps be a crucial advantage in the battle for European qualification?

I think so. If someone had said before the season that we’d be where we are now, I’d have bitten their hand off. You notice that in the team too. Lots of people said after the Hoffenheim game that it was two points dropped, but we said it was a good performance and we gained a point.

This Saturday you face another top-six rival in Bayer Leverkusen. Are they the favourites?

I think Leverkusen are favourites, their target is the Champions League. We’ll be watching their game against RB Leipzig closely and trying to pick up a few tips.
