Glasner moves from Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg, who he led to fourth place in the league and Champions League qualification last season. Glasner still had a contract at the Lower Saxony club until 30 June 2022, meaning a transfer fee was required. The two clubs agreed not to disclose this.
“Oliver Glasner has proven in the last two years at VfL Wolfsburg that he’s capable of working at the highest level and developing young players,” said Axel Hellmann, board spokesperson of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG. “In our situation, with a high turnover of staff around the team, we deliberately looked for a coach with experience of the Bundesliga and of European competition. As well as that, we quickly realised that Oliver Glasner is an ideal fit for our team with his playing philosophy. We are confident that he will carry on the success he’s had at Wolfsburg in Frankfurt as well.”

The 46-year-old spent the majority of his playing career at SV Ried in Upper Austria, where he made a total of 568 competitive appearances between 1992 and 2003 and between 2004 and 2011. The nine-time Austria U21 international also played three games on loan for LASK during the 2003/04 season.
Glasner, who has a degree in business administration, began his coaching career at Red Bull Salzburg as assistant to Roger Schmidt in the 2013/14 campaign. His first stint as head coach came at Ried, who he led to sixth place in the Austrian Bundesliga. He then enjoyed great success with LASK from 2015 to 2019, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time and then reaching second place in the league in his last year – the Linz club’s best position for over 50 years. In his first season at Wolfsburg in 2019/20, Glasner guided the team to seventh in the table.
