“Niko will give his all until the bitter end”

Eintracht Frankfurt board member Fredi Bobic and head coach Niko Kovac are determined to end an impressive season on a high following the announcement that the 46-year-old tactician will leave the club at the end of the campaign.

Niko Kovac on …

… an eventful Thursday: “The day started off as normal, but then something happened that I’ve never experienced before. I received a telephone call from Munich and they offered me a contract, which I accepted yesterday. I sat down with Fredi Bobic and Bruno Hübner in the evening and told them about what happened. I informed the players of my decision today. One thing is clear, though, and I told my players this too: My decision isn’t the be-all and end-all. The important thing is what happens with Eintracht Frankfurt in the coming weeks.”

… his state of mind: “It’s not particularly easy. I’ve enjoyed my time here these last two years, and I’m very sorry that it’s all about to come to an end. When one door closes, though, another one opens. Not everyone is given an opportunity to go to Bayern Munich.”

… the Eagles’ upcoming games: “We’ve built something here over the last few months. We mustn’t take our eyes off the prize. It’s not about me; it’s about Eintracht Frankfurt. We have a chance to qualify for Europe and reach the DFB Cup final. I’m not going to go looking for excuses or alibis. We want to do everything we can to achieve our objectives.”

Fredi Bobic on …

… his discussion with Kovac: “I was still in Copenhagen yesterday but we managed to sit down together in the evening. We respect Niko’s decision, which was made with conviction. It obviously took us by surprise, particularly at this stage of the season. It’s an incredibly important time for Eintracht Frankfurt. We’ve come so far in such a short space of time and we want to reap what we have sown. It goes without saying that it’s come at an inconvenient time.”

... Eintracht’s objectives: “The fans are obviously disappointed, which is fine. One thing is clear, however: The club is considerably bigger than myself, Niko Kovac or any other individual. That’s why we need to focus completely on our remaining matches. We’ve got some big games coming up. Those who know Niko and his work ethic will realise that he’ll give his all until the bitter end. The whole club must do the same.”
