“Didn’t play the way we can”

There was frustration and disappointment after the defeat at Gladbach, but the Eagles also know the opportunities they have next week.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “We’re very disappointed and annoyed because we didn’t play the way we can, and in parts we weren’t up to it, particularly at set pieces. Gladbach put us under pressure from the start and scored straight away from a corner. They played well and we weren’t at our best – these things happen. Until today we’d collected one more point than Bayern Munich in 2021, which says something. It was our fourth defeat of the season. We want to show a reaction on Tuesday and pick ourselves back up. That’s our task and our duty.”

Sebastian Rode: “We knew we were playing against a very good team, and it was the difficult game we expected. We conceded three goals from set pieces, so it’s going to be difficult to get anything here. But I prefer it for everything to come together on one day and not be spread over four games. Our performances over the second half of the season have been very consistent up to now, so now it’s about showing our true selves again on Tuesday against Augsburg and putting this defeat behind us quickly.”

Djibril Sow: “We played against a Champions League team and deservedly lost. To concede three goals from set pieces was very irritating. The fire that’s characterised us all season was missing today. We went to sleep a bit and therefore never got into our game.”
