Niels Nkounkou joins the Eagles

Eintracht Frankfurt have signed France U21 international Niels Nkounkou from AS St. Etienne, with the 22-year-old left-back agreeing a contract valid until 2028.

Nkounkou spent three years at Olympique Marseille, where he registered four goals and five assists in 43 games for the reserve side, before moving abroad for the first time in his career in 2020.

The left-back made seven appearances for English Premier League club Everton FC, before gaining significant match practice on loan at Belgian top-flight side Standard Liege, where he made 25 outings in 2021/22. He spent the following season on loan at Cardiff City in England’s second division. In January this year Nkounkou returned to his native France, where he contributed six goals and eight assists in 20 games for Ligue 2 side AS St. Etienne.

Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung: “We kept an eye on Niels Nkounkou throughout the second half of last season and now we’re delighted that he’s signed for Eintracht. He’s a highly talented player who stands out thanks to his dynamism, assertiveness and determination. Those characteristics will help our game, especially in his position.”
