Sustainable merchandising at Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt double their score in a sustainability study carried out by cum ratione gGmbH on the topic of ‘Sustainable Fan Shops’.

The overall tally puts Eintracht in eighth place among all 36 clubs comprising the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, and in the top five of all Bundesliga teams.

In addition to assessing the areas of communication, online shop and supply chains, the range of textile articles was of particular focus. Eintracht Frankfurt managed to considerably improve upon last year’s results in each of the aforementioned categories. Moreover, the club has taken great strides in its sustainable development in the area of merchandising. As part of a holistic approach, not only textiles are being examined but the entire product range, including all processes and workflows.

Eintracht Frankfurt have set themselves the following objectives:

•    Reduce returns in the online shop
•    Reduce production in the Far East
•    Increase regional production
•    Reduce packaging waste
•    Sustainable optimisation of the online shop's shipping material
•    Supplying our fan shops with reusable shipping material

The following measures have already been implemented:

•    Creation of an upcycling product range from old jerseys.
•    Changing the materials used for textiles to organic cotton and recycled
     plastic (from the beginning of 2021 for new orders)
•    Collaboration with social and regional institutions, such as workshops
     for the disabled
•    Stipulating purchasing conditions for our suppliers, which guarantee
     Eintracht Frankfurt both ecological and social standards
•    Use of textile seals such as GOTS or Fairtrade
•    Expansion of the Greenkeeper Highlight category, which brings
     together particularly sustainable products
•    Switching to exclusively digital receipts for orders in the online shop
•    Introduction of size tables for textiles in the online shop
•    Labelling of manufacturers and supplier countries in the online shop
