After its postponement due to Covid-19 in 2020 and an all-American edition in 2021, the Dallas Cup – one of the most renowned and traditional youth football tournaments in the world – is returning this year. Between 9 and 17 April, over 230 teams from 14 countries will once again be competing for the coveted ‘Boot and Ball’ trophy in north Texas.
Eintracht have been a regular fixture at the high-profile tournament since 2004. This will be the club’s 16th appearance overall, having only missed out in 2005, 2020 and 2021. Coached by Wolfgang Schmidt, the U17 girls will become the first female Eagles side to set off for Texas on 7 April, while Duarte Saloio’s U14 boys will also be going for glory in Dallas.
We’re delighted to welcome Eintracht Frankfurt back to Dallas in April. The club has a successful past and we at the Dallas Cup are excited to be part of that history.
Dallas Cup Executive Director Peter Davis
The tournament’s organisers are looking forward to hosting Eintracht once again next month. “We’re delighted to welcome Eintracht Frankfurt back to Dallas in April,” said Dallas Cup Executive Director Peter Davis, adding: “The club has a successful past and we at the Dallas Cup are excited to be part of that history. We’re also looking forward to seeing the next generation of Eintracht girls and boys play against some of the best teams, not only from North America but from around the world.”
Eintracht’s longstanding tradition of appearing in the Dallas Cup is reflected in their current first-team squad. Timothy Chandler (2004, U14) and Aymen Barkok (2015, U17) have both played at the tournament, as has former Eagles defender Marco Russ (2004, U19), who is now part of the club’s team of video analysts. The list of players to have appeared in the competition is a long one and includes a number of world-class names, including David Beckham, Raúl and Wayne Rooney.
Naturally, the excitement is huge ahead of the first international edition of the tournament since 2019. Over 1,000 players will be competing for silverware, with over 100,000 spectators from around the world providing a unique, spectacular atmosphere. The U17 girls and U14 boys will travel to Dallas with high expectations as they look to add two more chapters to Eintracht’s rich history in the competition.
