The Eagles romped to a 5-1 victory over Bayern at Deutsche Bank Park in November 2019, ending a run of 16 winless Bundesliga games against the Munich side. Eintracht also emerged victorious in the teams’ most recent encounter, beating the record champions 2-1 back in February this year.
On Sunday, SGE will be looking to record back-to-back Bundesliga victories against Bayern for the first time since 1995. Head coach Oliver Glasner is under no illusions as to the task facing his team this weekend, having suffered at the hands of Bayern as VfL Wolfsburg boss. The Austrian lost all four meetings with FCB during his time at the Volkswagen Arena.
A serious goal threat
Bayern have started the season in ominous form under new head coach Julian Nagelsmann, topping the table with 16 points from their six games so far and scoring at least three goals in each of their last nine matches in all competitions. Fifteen of their 23 Bundesliga goals this term have come at home – more than any other team in the division. In a run stretching back to the 2019/20 season, Bayern are unbeaten in their last 30 home league games, recording 25 wins and five draws in that time.
Eintracht in confident spirits
Goncalo Paciencia’s last-minute strike against Royal Antwerp in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday earned Eintracht their first win of the season under Glasner, but the Eagles have had little time to rest. As was the case in Belgium, Glasner’s players will have to throw themselves into every challenge to stand a chance of leaving the Allianz Arena with a positive result.
