Salcedo has appeared in each of Mexico's last five friendlies, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 victory against Iceland in March and in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Denmark. Fabian, meanwhile, was on target in the triumph over the UEFA EURO 2016 quarter-finalists before entering the fray as a second-half substitute in games against Wales (0-0) and Scotland (1-0). He was introduced at half time against the Danes last weekend, but was unable to help his side avoid defeat.
Injury woes at an end
Fabian has scored nine times in 39 outings for El Tri. The attacking midfielder made three appearances at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, coming on as a substitute in each of Mexico's Group A encounters, but a longstanding back injury restricted the 28-year-old to just four appearances during their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
A centre-back by trade, Salcedo made six appearances in qualifying despite suffering a serious shoulder injury last summer. He was also forced to sit out the goalless draw with Panama in November 2016 after being sent off in the 2-1 win against the USA four days prior. This will be a first World Cup finals appearance for 24-year-old Salcedo, who only made his international debut in April 2015.
Mexico's Group F fixtures: Germany (Sunday 17 June, Moscow), South Korea (Saturday 23 June, Rostov), Sweden (Wednesday 27 June, Yekaterinburg)
Best World Cup finish: El Tri reached the quarter-finals on home soil in both 1970 (beaten 4-1 by Italy) and 1986 (knocked out on penalties by Germany after a goalless draw).
World Cup 2014: Mexico were eliminated in the last 16 for the sixth World Cup in succession, losing 2-1 to the Netherlands in Fortaleza.
World Cup 2018 expectations: Osorio's troops will fancy their chances of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in 32 years, but have been drawn against tough opposition in Group F. Germany are expected to win the group, while South Korea and Sweden are no pushovers.
Key players: Currently 15th in the FIFA World Rankings, Mexico have an array of attacking options at their disposal. Their most valuable player, according to Transfermarkt, is PSV forward Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano (estimated value: €22 million), while the country's record scorer Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez (€18 million) - formerly of Bayer 04 Leverkusen - will be looking to add to his 49 international goals. The 30-year-old currently plies his trade at English Premier League outfit West Ham United.
